Functional Aspiration Controlled Electrothermal Stimulation

Lumenis uses a revolutionary technology called FACES (Functional Aspiration Controlled Electrothermal Stimulation) to conform the skin to allow radio frequency energy to pass through the epidermis and gently heat the deeper dermal tissue. Treatement is virtually painless. In the months following treatment, the body's natural processes lay down new collagen which is thicker, more organized and has a structure similar to that found in younger and less damaged skin. The result is a smoother, firmer and more youthful look.

FACES uses vacuum to:

  • Position the skin for optimum targeting of collagen-rich dermal tissue so RF flows in a straight path through the dermal tissue.
  • Ensure 100% contact with electrodes to eliminate the risk of arcing.

   FACES vacuum assisted parallel bipolar radio frequency delivery concentrates heat deep in the dermis
A coupling medium reduces the impedence of the epidermis allowing the RF energy to pass through it without creating heat. As the RF meets the impedance in the dermis, heat is generated. The result: safe and effective deep dermal heating with little or no discomfort.

About Radio Frequency

Radio frequency energy always takes the shortest path from source to ground. As it meets impedance in the tissue, heat is generated. For effective treatment of wrinkles and fine lines, heat must be created deep in the dermis without injuring the epidermis. RF systems come in three basic configurations: monopolar, flush bipolar, and Aluma's parallel bipolar design.
